So here it is. My first entry.
I would say the eagerly anticipated first entry, but that wouldn’t exactly be accurate. I doubt there is anyone who has been anticipating this blog post, eagerly or otherwise. In fact i’m suprised that you’re even reading this now. Yes you.
So, “What is this blog going to be about?”, i hear you ask. Well, that’s a good question. I’m gald you asked. It’s… What’s that? You didn’t ask? I thought you… No?.. Oh. Well anyway, if you’re still reading then i may as well answer it.
It’s hard to categorise really, i have every intention of it being about all things ‘geeky’ and ‘rocky’, (no, not the films about a small-time boxer from the streets of Philadelphia who gets a shot at fighting Apollo Creed the heavyweight champion of the world, looses but proves himself and wins self-respect, then quits boxing, gets married, starts boxing again, gets challenged by Apollo to a re-match, becomes heavyweight champion, defends his title multiple times, prepared to retire gets challenged publically by Clubber Lang, his trainer Micky has a heart attack, gets overpowered in the fight and knocked out in the 2nd round, Micky dies, Apollo steps in, trains him to fight more like him at his LA gym, gets a re-match with Lang, outboxes and tires him, knocks him out in the 3rd round, becomes champion once again, spends time with family, new fighter Ivan Drago from USSR emerges, challenges him to an exhibition match, he says no, Apollo fights in his place but gets badly beaten and dies in his arms as Drago watches, to avenge Apollo he challenges Drago, then in one of the best montages of all time he trains at a remote cabin in Siberia while Drago is in an ultra-technological training facility, takes a beating in the fight but refuses to fall, eventually wins over the foreign crowd with his display of courage and determination, knocks Drago out with seconds left in the final round, gets diagnosed with brain damaged, retires, loses his fortune, returns to his old Phily neighborhood, reopens Micky’s gym, trains a young fighter called Tommy who then leaves, Tommy wins heavyweight championship then returns after being jeered to seek out his former mentor for a final showdown, he beats Tommy in a bare-knuckle street fight, 16 years later his son is grown and distant, his wife has died, he’s opened a restaurant named after her filled with mementos of his prime and tells his customers old fight stories, computer-simulated fight depicts bout between his younger self and current champion, reignites interest in him, discovers he has not lost his fighting spirit, considers an opportunity to prove himself in the ring again, does a great job fighting, goes to judges decision, wins the love and respect of his son, and leaves before the result. No, not that at all. Nor the type of terrain. It refers to the broad music genre of rock), but it’s more realistic to define it as…
The life, times, and general randomness of me, the geeky rocker, called Drew.
